The Bike Rooms specialise in high performance bikes and cycling gear, supplying products in the Tour De France. They wanted a resource for information on The Tour De Yorkshire, from teams racing, routes over the three days and accompanying promotional material.

After a discussion on info gathering and creating initial designs, the plan was to create a one page site with all the resources a cycling fan could need, including places to stay and visit during “Le Tour”. Working with a web developer, I created graphics and interactive maps, we compiled the resources we had created into a smooth scrolling one page website.

Featuring 515 km of leg busting slopes and rim denting cobbles, interactive maps were created featuring colour coded pins for hotels, spectator hubs and points of interest. These maps were created using the mapping platform, Mapbox. The guide needed a streamlined look, so clean and clear illustrations for spotting the different cycling jerseys the different teams wear, so readers can recognise them when seeing them speed past.

With the project starting in mid-April, and with a quick turnaround, the project was completed with high praise from the client. The guide was shared by cycling fans, featured in The Times – On Your Bike section and Lord Alan Sugar – an avid cyclist, tweeted about the content.
